Product Questions

What is an all-natural dog treat?

Natural dog treats are made with ingredients derived from natural sources and are free from chemical, artificial additives, and preservatives.

What is a holistic dog treat?

A holistic dog treat is made with limited ingredients and does not contain any harmful ingredients, insalubrious fillers, artificial flavors, or artificial colors.

Are your treats made in the U.S.A.?

Yes, all of our treats are made in the USA, and we are very proud of that fact.

Where are your treats made?

Since the founding of our company, we have felt it is important for our customers to know exactly where and how our treats are made. In the beginning, we made everything in-house, and we mean everything – from peanut butter to milling our own flour. As we grew, this totally in-house approach became impossible to maintain. As a result of our company growth and other external, worldwide factors, we shifted to working with a US-based production partner with responsibly sourced ingredients. We carefully selected our partner, as we wanted one with the same values as ours in our product offerings. We hope one day to grow enough to bring our products back in-house. Until then, we are glad to announce that all of our treats are made in a 100% solar-powered factory by workers who are paid a fair living wage.

CBD for Dogs

Can CBD help with my dogs pain?

CBD is a wonderful choice for dogs experiencing joint pain from arthritis or injury. It has both anti-inflammatory and pain reduction abilities.

How can CBD help with hot spots?

Hot spots can be very painful for dogs and should be treated early. If your pets’ hot spots are bleeding, we recommend consulting their vet for a course of treatment. However, CBD can help provide relief. CBD’s anti-microbial benefits and its ability to reduce inflammation can provide some benefits for dogs suffering from hot spots. Many of our customers use both our Skin & Coat CBD Treats with our CBD Pet Balm to help treat this.

What is situational anxiety in pets?

Situational anxiety in pets is a type of anxiety triggered by various stressful situations. In dogs, these might be scenarios like car rides or loud noises like fireworks, thunder, and gunshots. Dogs can also feel anxiety when meeting new people are visiting new places. The benefits of CBD in all these situations can vary, but our customers’ dogs have experienced significant relief when using our Dr. Know’s line of CBD pet products.

Well CBD Treats or Tincture get my dog high?

No, CBD dog treats will not get your pet high. CBD edibles for pets are made using CBD extracted from the hemp plant. The hemp does not contain the levels of delta-9 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the chemical compound with psychoactive features that is also toxic to pets.

How quickly will CBD work for my dog?

Generally speaking, it can take between 45 and 90 minutes for CBD to enter your dog’s system. For uses such as mild anxiety, inflammation, or pain, you should see some benefit almost right away once it is in your dog’s system. It may take several weeks of regular use for more severe cases to see extensive results.

What CBD dog treats are best for my dog’s issues?

We offer four types of CBD dog treats to help your pup with their specific issue. If your pup suffers from situational anxiety like issues with car rides, loud noises like fireworks or thunder, or even some mild separation-related anxiety, then we would recommend our Dr. Know’s Chill Pills dog treats. Chill Pills can also be beneficial for mild pain management. For a dog with arthritis or another type of joint pain, we recommend our Bone & Joint formula, which combines the benefits of CBD with glucosamine to provide extra relief for joint pain and inflammation. For dogs with digestion issues or even more several inflammation-related pain, our Digestion formula that contains both CBD and CBG would be ideal.

Can CBD help with a dog’s anxiety?

Yes, CBD works great for dogs with anxiety-triggered issues as they promote calmness and relaxation. It works best as a tool to help retrain your dog to disregard the trigger that is causing their anxiety. In the case of conditions like occasional discomfort, sleeplessness, or situational anxiety, it can take the edge off by helping them and you simultaneously.

Does CBD oil work for Dogs?

Yes. The CBD oil works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system and supporting its goal. That goal is to maintain a state of balance, health, and homeostasis.

Should I use CBD oil or CBD treats for my dog?

Both CBD treats and CBD oils contain cannabidiol, but one might be better for your pet’s issues. We often recommend using oil to treat chronic conditions like general anxiety, arthritis,  or similar conditions.

CBD Oil For Dogs

CBD oil is administered with a dropper that can be used to give a precise dose to pets and is usually applied to their food twice daily. We do not recommend applying the dropper directly to your dog’s mouth as droppers are typically made from glass and could create a hazard for your dog.

Giving CBD oil with food is a superior method for dosing because it increases the amount of CBD that gets absorbed, ensuring the active ingredients can take effect.

Compared to soft chews, CBD oil has a higher concentration of cannabidiol and contains other minor cannabinoids such as cannabinol (CBN) and cannabichromene (CBC), as well as terpenes and flavonoids—all compounds from the cannabis plant that have healing properties and can work together to increase the health benefits.

CBD Treats for Dogs

Our CBD treats are made with the same oil as our tincture and contain the same minor cannabinoids but in a lower concentration by weight.

The soft chews can be offered as treats, making it easy for pet owners to give them during a car ride, at the veterinarian’s office, or other places where dogs could use a calming boost. They may also have added natural flavoring to increase palatability for dogs.

Also, each chew contains a consistent amount of CBD, meaning the dosing is not as easily customizable as it is with oil products, but having it in a treat can be very convenient for travel.

What is CBG and how can it help my dog?

What is CBG, and how can it help? Well, CBG is a cannabinoid, much like CBD and THC. It is a “chemical precursor” to CBD, THC, CBC, and many other cannabinoids. In a way, it is a building block for a wide array of cannabinoids. So how does it help? While there haven’t been complete studies on CBG’s benefits in dogs or cats just yet, there have been several preclinical studies indicating CBG has the following benefits:

Chronic pain relief: Research has found that CBG has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it potentially beneficial for conditions in dogs such as arthritis and hip dysplasia.
Mood enhancement: CBG could help dogs with anxiety without the drowsiness that CBD can cause.
Cellular health support: Research suggests that CBG can help slow the growth of cancer cells, so it could be beneficial for dogs with cancer.
Anti-bacterial agent: The topical use of CBG could help dogs with skin infections.
Digestive health: CBG has been shown to offer a significant improvement in digestive disorders like colitis and inflammatory bowel disease.
Bladder issues: Research has shown that CBG can help promote bladder control.

How can CBD help my dog?

Just like humans, dogs have an endocannabinoid system that allows them to benefit from CBD. This system is the pathway for the active ingredients in hemp to help relieve many symptoms.

CBD drops or treats for dogs can potentially provide relief for several conditions your pup may experience occasionally or chronically, including:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Moderate to severe pain
  • Chronic inflammation
  • Arthritis & joint pain
  • Digestion problems (also see information about dog probiotics and tips to cure a dog’s upset stomach)
  • Nausea
  • Symptoms from cancer

We recommend talking to your vet before starting treatment for these or any other of the claimed benefits to make sure CBD is safe for your pup.

What is CBD?

CBD is an abbreviation for cannabinoid. Cannabinoid is a natural substance found in cannabis, also known as marijuana, and also in hemp plants. Unlike THC, the most common cannabinoid in marijuana, CBD is not intoxicating or psychoactive.

Benefits of CBD for your dog:

  1. Relief of anxiety and stress
  2. Help moderate-severe pain
  3. Reduce chronic inflammation
  4. Reduce some symptoms of cancer
  5. Relieve digestion trouble
  6. Reduce trouble from arthritis and joint pain
