Man’s Best Friend: Great Danes and Poodles
Our weekly breed spotlight on a type of dog that we love- Holiday Edition being dogs that would be great for adoption for families and children, especially this time of year!
Great Dane
- Great Danes are one of the tallest dogs
- They are crossbreeds of English Mastiff and Irish Wolfhounds
- Great Danes were called German Mastiffs until the 19th century
- Great Danes are gentle when given training, especially early on in their life
- Scooby Doo was based off of a Great Dane
Poodle
- There are three sizes of Poodles: Standard, Miniature and Toy
- Poodles have one layer of fur, shed minimally and are hypoallergenic
- Poodles are very trainable and are good for families as long as they are gradually introduced and are supervised when with small children
- There are many Poodle crossbreeds, such as Cockapoo, Maltipoo, Bernedoodle and more
